We recommend using either Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape
Navigator as the browser in conjunction with the administration
server.
How do I start the administration server?
Simply go to the directory in which you installed Zeus Server, most
likely /usr/local/zeus, and type ./admin. The
administration server should be run as root, unless you understand the
implications of doing otherwise - see the section on this later on.
When you run the administration server, you should see something like this:
Zeus httpd administration server V1.0 (Feb 24 1996) (C) Copyright Zeus Technology Ltd. 1996 Administration server started on http://www.zeus.co.uk:2946Don't worry if some of the values display are different to those shown above. The administration server is now running. At this point, you should point your web-browser at the URL given by the admin program (http://www.zeus.co.uk:2956 in the example shown above).
The administration server is a process which normally runs as root which is a specialised web-server. Its content is a collection of pages and forms, their function is to tailor the server's configuration files in a user-friendly fashion.
By clicking on links, and entering information in fields upon request, you can configure every aspect of the server, and even perform administrative operations such as viewing and rotating the log files.
You should be able to use the administration server without recourse to this documentation by just following the choices and informative explanations on screen. However the information presented here gives longer and more detailed explanations of the features contained in the administration server
The administration server is split between three main sections available from the main menu. These are configuration, log administration and server execution. The configuration section is the major part of the server, and is responsible for configuring both Zeus Server and the administration server. The log administration section enables you to view the transfer and error log files generated by the server, and to rotate the log files (log file rotation is explained in a later section). The server execution section is where you can actually run the server, or stop the server if it is already running. It also allows you to bring down the administration server.
On pages below the main page, there are links to the three main sections of the server, which look similar to the table below:
